AMT License Files
AMT License Files
AMT uses two separate license files. One for the runtime environment called AmtRuntime.lic and a second one for the AMT Developer environment called Lion.lic.
- AmtRuntime.lic is used by the Control Center, the Application Services and Application Managers (AMT-LION) and the Transaction Services (AMT-COBOL).
It needs to be installed in the AMT Environment root folder of every server of your AMT Runtime Environment. - Lion.lic is only used by the AMT Developer Studio and the AMT Generator Service. This license file is machine specific, i.e. it contains a hardware finger print of the server it is intended for. The AMT Generator Service checks this fingerprint and therefore a separate Lion.lic license file is needed for every machine the AMT Generator Service will run on.
It needs to be installed in the Lion folder of the AMT Environment next to AMT Developer Studio executable LionDev.exe and the AMT Generator Service executable LionDevGenNet.exe.
New License Files
On first time use of AMT both a new license file for the AMT Developer environment Lion.lic and a new license file for the runtime environment AmtRuntime.lic are needed. To obtain these new license files execute the following steps.
- Open a File Browser and navigate to the Lion folder of your new AMT Environment. In this folder there will be a Lion.lic template license file called Default_lion.lic. Rename it to Lion.lic.
- In this folder start the AMT Generator Service executable by hand (double click). The AMT Generator Service executable will start as a normal program and state that the license file is not valid. At the same time a hardware signature of the server has been written into the Lion.lic license file.
- Next close the error popup by clicking the Ok button, the AMT Generator Service executable will close. Then send the changed Lion.lic license file to Avanade Customer Support using the Avanade Service Portal.
- Avanade Customer Support will then check your rights for the license files and when ok, valid activated Lion.lic and AmtRuntime.lic license files will be created and sent back to you via the Avanade Service Portal. You will be notified about the new license files with an e-mail.
- The received Lion.lic license file needs to be placed in the Lion folder of the AMT environment overwriting the old file. This license file can only be used on the server the license file was created for.
- The received AmtRuntime.lic file needs to be placed in the root folder of the AMT environment. This license file contains no hardware signature and must be used on any server that will run the runtime.
Renewal
In an AMT environment there are two situations where a renewal of your license files is needed:
- Normally AMT License Files have a validity period of one year. When this period ends the license files need to be renewed.
- To check the validity period of the AmtRuntime.lic license file, click on the username at the top right inside the Control Center. Alternatively it is possible to open the license file in a text reader. The end of the validity period is shown in the property RUNTIMEVALIDTILL.
- To check the validity period of the Lion.lic license file, start the AMT Lion Developer Studio and open the help -> about popup. In this popup the end of the validity period is shown. The same can be achieved by starting the AMT Generator Service manually and also opening the About popup.
- The license file Lion.lic contains a hardware signature of the machine the Lion Generator Service runs on. When the hardware changes (e.g. a new Harddisk), the license file Lion.lic needs to be renewed.
End of Validity Period
Near the end of the validity period the AMT Developer Studio will warn that the validity period will end soon. To renew the license files execute the following steps. Normally you will have paid the license fees for the new period in time and in that case you will receive the new license files through the Avanade Service Portal in time.
- In case you did not receive new license files in time, contact Avanade Customer Support using the Avanade Service Portal.
- To install the renewed Lion.lic license file, first make sure the AMT Generator Service is stopped on the machine the license will be installed.
- Then open a file browser, navigate to the Lion folder of the AMT Environment and for safety reasons, make a backup of the old Lion.lic license file (just in case there is something faulty with the new license file).
- Copy the new Lion.lic license file over the old one. The AMT Generator Service can now be restarted.
- The new AmtRuntime.lic file must be copied to the root folder of the AMT environment of all the machines running the AMT Runtime. Then stop and start all the Applications Services of each runtime environment to let these services read the new validity period.
- Best is to also close the browser used for the Control Center and reopen the Control Center in the browser.
Hardware Change
When the hardware of the machine running the AMT Generator Service has changed the AMT Generator Service will no longer start up. This can be corrected by executing the steps shown below the warning.
It is extremely important to execute the following steps when logged on directly to the machine running the AMT Generator Service. When executing the steps from another machine using a drive mapping, the hardware fingerprint of the wrong machine will get into the Lion.lic license file. |
- Log on to the machine running the AMT Generator Service using an account with Administrator rights.
- Make sure the AMT Generator Service has been stopped.
- Open a file browser and navigate to the Lion folder of the AMT environment.
- Start the AMT Generator Service executable LionDevGenNet.exe directly from the file browser. The AMT Generator Service will show an error popup stating 'Your license is not valid for this system or the system is not activated yet.'.
- Close the popup and close the AMT Generator Service. The new hardware fingerprint will now have been written to the Lion.lic license file.
- Then send the changed Lion.lic license file to Avanade Customer Support using the Avanade Service Portal. State the reason for the renewal of the license file in this e-mail.
- Avanade Customer Support will check your rights for the license files and when ok, valid activated Lion.lic and AmtRuntime.lic license files will be created and sent back to you via the Avanade Service Portal. You will be notified about the new license files with an e-mail. The validity period will not have changed.
- The received Lion.lic license file needs to be placed in the Lion folder of the AMT environment overwriting the old faulty file.
- Start the AMT Generator Service to check the validity of the new license file.
- The received new AmtRuntime.lic license will have the same validity period as the old one and can be discarded.
