AMT license files

AMT uses two separate license files: one for the runtime environment, AmtRuntime.lic, and one for the AMT Developer environment, Lion.lic.

• AmtRuntime.lic is used by the Control Center, Application Services and Application Managers (AMT-LION), and Transaction Services (AMT-COBOL).
  Install this file in the AMT environment root folder on every server in your AMT runtime environment.
• Lion.lic is only used by the AMT Developer Studio and the AMT Generator Service. This license file is machine specific, that is, it contains a hardware fingerprint for the server it is intended for. The AMT Generator Service checks this fingerprint, so a separate Lion.lic license file is required for every machine where the AMT Generator Service will run.
  Install this file in the Lion folder of the AMT environment, next to the AMT Developer Studio executable LionDev.exe and the AMT Generator Service executable LionDevGenNet.exe.

New license files

When you use AMT for the first time, you need a new Lion.lic license file for the AMT Developer environment and a new AmtRuntime.lic license file for the runtime environment. To obtain these license files, complete the following steps.

• Open a file browser and navigate to the Lion folder of your new AMT environment. In this folder, there is a Lion.lic template license file called Default_lion.lic. Rename it to Lion.lic.
• In this folder, start the AMT Generator Service executable manually (double-click). The AMT Generator Service executable starts as a normal program and states that the license file is not valid. At the same time, a hardware signature of the server has been written into the Lion.lic license file.
• Next, close the error pop-up by clicking OK. The AMT Generator Service executable closes. Then send the changed Lion.lic license file to Avanade Customer Support using the Avanade Service Portal.
• Avanade Customer Support checks your license rights. If everything is in order, activated Lion.lic and AmtRuntime.lic license files are created and sent back to you through the Avanade Service Portal. You will be notified about the new license files by email.
• The received Lion.lic license file needs to be placed in the Lion folder of the AMT environment overwriting the old file. This license file can only be used on the server the license file was created for.
• The received AmtRuntime.lic file needs to be placed in the root folder of the AMT environment. This license file contains no hardware signature and must be used on any server that will run the runtime.

Renewal

In an AMT environment, there are two situations where you need to renew your license files:

• AMT license files usually have a validity period of one year. When this period ends, you need to renew the license files.
  • To check the validity period of the AmtRuntime.lic license file, click on the username at the top right inside the Control Center. You can also open the license file in a text editor. The end of the validity period is shown in the property RUNTIMEVALIDTILL.
  • To check the validity period of the Lion.lic license file, start the AMT Lion Developer Studio and open the Help > About pop-up. This pop-up shows the end of the validity period. You can get the same information by starting the AMT Generator Service manually and opening the About pop-up.
• The license file Lion.lic contains a hardware signature of the machine the Lion Generator Service runs on. When the hardware changes (for example, a new hard disk), you need to renew the Lion.lic license file.

End of validity period

Near the end of the validity period, AMT Developer Studio warns that the validity period will end soon. To renew the license files, complete the following steps. Normally, you pay the license fees for the new period in time, and in that case, you receive the new license files through the Avanade Service Portal in time.

• If you do not receive new license files in time, contact Avanade Customer Support using the Avanade Service Portal.
• To install the renewed Lion.lic license file, first make sure the AMT Generator Service is stopped on the machine where the license will be installed.
• Then open a file browser, navigate to the Lion folder of the AMT environment, and for safety, back up the old Lion.lic license file (in case there is an issue with the new license file).
• Copy the new Lion.lic license file over the old one. You can now restart the AMT Generator Service.
• Copy the new AmtRuntime.lic file to the root folder of the AMT environment on all machines that run the AMT runtime. Then stop and start all Application Services in each runtime environment so these services read the new validity period.
• Also close the browser you used for the Control Center and reopen the Control Center in the browser.

Hardware change

If the hardware of the machine that runs the AMT Generator Service changes, the AMT Generator Service no longer starts. You can correct this by completing the following steps.

• Log on to the machine running the AMT Generator Service by using an account with Administrator rights.
• Make sure the AMT Generator Service is stopped.
• Open a file browser and navigate to the Lion folder of the AMT environment.
• Start the AMT Generator Service executable LionDevGenNet.exe directly from the file browser. The AMT Generator Service shows an error pop-up stating, 'Your license is not valid for this system or the system is not activated yet.'.
• Close the pop-up and close the AMT Generator Service. The new hardware fingerprint is now written to the Lion.lic license file.
• Send the changed Lion.lic license file to Avanade Customer Support using the Avanade Service Portal. State the reason for the license renewal in this email.
• Avanade Customer Support checks your license rights. If everything is in order, activated Lion.lic and AmtRuntime.lic license files are created and sent back to you through the Avanade Service Portal. You will be notified about the new license files by email. The validity period does not change.
• Place the received Lion.lic license file in the Lion folder of the AMT environment, overwriting the old faulty file.
• Start the AMT Generator Service to check the validity of the new license file.
• The received new AmtRuntime.lic license file has the same validity period as the old one and can be discarded.
