Installation and Configuration
The hardware and network configuration for AMT-COBOL applications is as follows:
AMT-COBOL supports a three-tier architecture:
- The first tier is the machine (or several) for the database. It is not required to run Windows on this tier, since other Operating Systems are also supported.
- The middle tier is where the Application server and Batch Controller run. These services run on a Windows platform. This Application service handles all DLL files for the clients. The Batch Controller runs the batch.
- The third tier is a small application running on a workstation with Windows. A shortcut to the program (stored on the application server, the middle tier) is enough to run the application. This means that it is not necessary to install a database manager on the workstation. The third tier is also accessible through a WebInterface called the Application Center.
A separate server can be used for reports. This server handles all the report requests and starts the requested
report as a separate program on the Windows platform.
For small systems it is possible to run the Report, Database, and Application Server on a single machine.
