Indexes
To speed up the search for a record in a file it is possible to use file indexes. File indexes can be added by taking the following steps:
- Open the object that has to be linked to the file index.
- Specify the identifier to use for calling the index.
You can do this by opening the node "Files", selecting "Indexes" and clicking the option "Add new file index" that is displayed in the right pane. In the dialog box that is displayed next, specify with which name you want to refer to the index. This name is actually just an identifier you can specify any name you want. - Specify the requested parameters.
You can select any File ID and Layout ID that you have added to the object. For "Field Name", you can choose one of the available fieldnames in the specified layout. In the field "File Extension", you have to specify a suffix to be attached to the index file. Because this index file is identified by the name of the main file and the extra suffix, you need to specify different suffixes for each file index that you add to an object. The file index may also be specified as "unique".
When the file is called for the first time, the index file will be created automatically.
