Global Definitions

By selecting the Global definitions node in the Enterprise Repository screen, you can define, view or change your global definitions. It is important that changes in the global definitions are checked in before objects are generated. Otherwise these changes will not be included when generating these objects.

In a migrated application there will be five blocks of global definitions, Colors, Constant, Redefines, SessionData and Variables. Each block can be checked in separately. Blocks can be added and removed freely.

Note: When creating a new application there will be only two blocks, Colors and Variables. When needed the three other blocks can be created with the appropriate option set (i.e. the Constants option for the Constants block, the Retain option for the SessionData block, the Redefines option for the Redefines block and the Standard option for all other global defined variables).

Global definitions will be loaded in every form and report and may be cached. Therefore if global definitions are large, they could take up a substantial amount of memory by default.

Adjusting a Global Definition

If you double click on a global definition, the following options for that global definition will appear:

Deleting a Global Definitions object

A global definitions object can be removed from the repository through the screen "Revision Control".
